KALPESWAR TUNGNATH TREK

Kalpeswar, Rudranath and Tungnath are amongst "Panch Kedars" in Himalayas and popular destinations in pilgrims, peace seekers and trekkers. This area lies in Kedarnath Musk deer sanctuary with very dense forest and vivid flora and fauna, including Himalayan peasant, Musk Deer, Thar etc. We can see local peasants and there colourful and hard earned life in mountains.

This trek is very highly recommended for those who like unspoiled nature and greatest views of Himalayas.

Destinations: Uttarakhand
Day 01: Rishikesh - Urgam. Trek to Kalpeshwar:
Drive 255km; 8hrs to Urgam village via Helang. Trek 4km; 1hrs to Kalpeswar temple (2200m). It is a long but scenic drive through the Alaknanda River. Kalpeshwar is known as fifth temple amongst Panch kedar. At this small stone temple, approached through a cave passage, the matted tress (jata) of Lord Shiva is worshipped. Hence, Lord Shiva is also called as Jatadhar or Jateshwar. Overnight Camping

Day 02: Kalpeswar - Kalgot pass (08km;4hrs):
A easy day climbing through beautiful pine forest to Kalgot Pass. Camp in a very beautiful spot.

Day 03: Kalgot - Dumak (2500m; 15 kms; 6 to 7 hrs):
Trek to Dumak, a village with beautiful views of Alaknanda valley and terrace fields. We climb an unnamed pass of 2800m on this day. Overnight Camping/Home stay.

Day 04: Dumak - Panar (12km; 6-7hrs):
A steep climb through most beautiful forest leads us to high ridge with alpine pastures called Panar. Excellent views of Himalayas and Granite goddess Nanda Devi can be seen from the top.

Day 05: Panar-Rudranath (3300m; 11 kms; 5 to 6 hrs):
Trek to Rudranath (3300m) through breathtaking ridge and flower sprinkled meadows. The face of lord Shiva is worshiped here. We could see many peaks from this place as Nanda Devi, Dunagiri, Trisul and Choukhamba. Overnight camping.

Day 06: Rudranath - Jungle camp (2100m; 16 kms; 7-8 hrs):
After morning visit and prayers at Temple trek 16km; 7-8hrs downhill to jungle camp. This walk through the dense Rhododendron forest takes us to beautiful camping ground. Night stay in tents.

Day 07: Jungle camp - Sagar (6 kms); Drive to Chopta. (2 hrs trek; 1 hr drive):
Trek steep 6km down to road head at Sagar and drive 1hrs to chopta. Overnight stay in Tents.

Day 08: Chopta -Tungnath- Chopta (08km; 5hrs):
Today we will visit one of the most popular and highest Shiva shrine in the area called "Tungnath". Shiva is worshipped here in the form of His hands. We do little excursion from temple to Chandrasilla top to see panoramic views of Himalayas. We can see all major peaks of Garhwal Himalayas from the top. Return to chopta in the afternoon.

Day 09: Chopta - Rishikesh:
After breakfast drive 7hrs through scenic Mandakini valley to Rishikesh. Trip End.
